Important information you need to know about the EU Settlement Scheme

The EU Settlement scheme opened fully on 30 March 2019 and enables EU citizens resident in the UK, along with their family members, to obtain UK immigration status.

For applicants:

The scheme is designed to be simple and straightforward - you will need either a laptop, tablet or mobile device to complete the three-step process. For those without access to one of the above devices there is support available to assist with document scanning. Click here for locations.

EU citizens will need to complete three key stages - prove your identity, show that you live in the UK and declare any criminal convictions. For more information, click here.

It is free to apply and the deadline for applying, if the UK leaves the EU with a deal, will be 30 June 2021. If there is a no deal exit the deadline is 31 December 2020.

The rights and status of EU, EEA and Swiss citizens living in the UK will remain the same until 30 June 2021 if the UK leaves the EU with a deal.

For employers:

The Government has created an employer toolkit which equips employers with the right tools and information to support EU citizens and their families when applying for UK immigration status. The toolkit also provides posters, leaflets and social media material to help you to communicate important information regarding the scheme to your workforce.

The Home Office has also launched a nationwide marketing campaign to bring further awareness to the EU Settlement Scheme application process. Here is a helpful video which can be shown to your workforce.
